East could have passed that double to eventually arrive at a two trick set (300).

What was the delayed 2N? Was 2 forcing? Wouldn't an East 2 bid have shown a minimum with exactly two spades?
If West could bid a non forcing 2, wouldn't East have possibly had a singleton spade precluding such as 18 points? Could it be a singleton spade and 15 to 17 points with clubs that had been forcing to pass? Would that instead bid 3N over 2?

At IMP scoring, vulnerable, West took no chances of missing game and tried 3N.
