This board rotated to make declarer South: original board number: 10
North, with a maximum 1N (6 to 10, no 4 card major) might have done
better at 2nd turn to respond 3 with the two aces
and maximum spade length.
Perhaps 3 is better reserved for maximums with instead
heart shortness (inverted minors).
West cashed a club and continued J.
There were many ways to play diamonds.
On 3:2 divisions of both diamonds and trump, a certain path to victory would
be to cash two top diamonds and ruff high a 3rd round here and then draw trump.
Somehow the idea that 3:2 divisions of two suits would be less than even odds
67.8% x 67.8% tempted declarer to cash a top diamond, play three rounds of
trump ending in dummy and finesse a diamond.
Declarer made 5, not a good result on at least the layout.
