 Grand Slam Fumbling
1 Waiting, game forcing
2 Transfer to hearts
3 Slam Try
4 Offer to quit

East's 22-24 2N rebid range suggested to West's a chance at a heart slam suggested via a strained 4 try.
The meek 5 (offer to quit) later met by 6 and 7 seemed lunacy.
Wouldn't such a hand jump past 3 to suggest a maximum?
Shouldn't 6 have been an offer to play, with perhaps 3 hearts and 6 clubs? How about 5 great clubs?

At IMP scoring, West decided to try 6, given the extra as of yet unannounced heart rather than considering the new strain.

The 7 offer to play in either 7 or 7N seemed little more than a nudge up the walkway to gallows, some progress, yet not quite surely good....and a foregone bad end.

A doubtful East watched South lead a spade to the declaring East's J.
There were 7 hearts, 3 spades, 1 diamond, 2 clubs and a club ruff on dividing hearts.
