East was on lead and the
Q was
dutifully led.
West encouraged with the
J and
declaring North won the
K.
East must have wondered how the contract would have a chance, with 8 HCP in
hand and partner West having opened.
North's
Q was led and East ducked
in case of a singleton West
K.
North then tried the
J and East
seemed to sense a West
K now
doubleton, for it was ducked.
North had been wondering if simply cashing out for down 1 (if clubs divided
3:3) or down 2 otherwise.
Now there were 2 diamonds, 4 clubs, 1 spade and 2 heart tricks.
West was a bit disappointed, but at least the defence had found the best lead.
