Disturbing Opponent's NoTrump
(or Bergen over NoTrump)

DONT: Bidding 2 or 2 or 2 over their 1N opening shows that suit and some higher ranking suit.
Double shows some single suited hand.

How many systems do you have for your partner's 1N opening?
Do you play Blackwood, 4 Suit Transfers, Texas, Smolen, Weisburger, Fragments and Minor Suit Stayman?
When the opponents interfere, most systems are OFF and you and your partner might not be prepared.
The same stands for many other partnerships. Many don't have DONT defences. Catch them unprepared!!!

Get ready to alert! Everything is alertable with this one.

Minimum distribution: 5-4 in the two suits when not vulnerable and 5-5 when vulnerable
Points? You need points? How about a minimum of 8 HCP (WITHOUT EXTRAORDINARY distribution)?

Here North-South have enough for game.
East's 2 bid interferes with transfers and invitations.
South might normally have transferred to spades. Did you bid 3 ? That's not really much of a suit.
How about Stayman instead? Was 3 Stayman for you? The cuebid of a known enemy suit is Stayman here.

3 of a minor is forcing
3 of a major is shortness with 10+ HCP

Lots of play here!
The 3N contract couldn't be beat and 4 had good play.
Was 4N a sacrifice then?
You had a choice between 2 and 2. Which did you choose?

That heart suit is good, but not good enough for East to bid.
Would your 2, as North, still have been Stayman?
Does Stayman promise just both majors here or points too?
Pass was a good alternative to Stayman.

If you play DONT, you give up the penalty double in order to show a single suiter.
There is still a chance to penalize: partner might pass for penalties with 15+ HCP. You promised 8+ HCP.

    Endnotes:
You can still increase the pre-empt with 3 or 4 level suit bids.
With a very strong hand and a long suit, you can double and maybe later bid at the 3 level.

I prefer a lighter 5-4 not-vulnerable vs vulnerable requirement at matchpoints.
"Partner, I owe you one." is one of my favourite sayings.
Unfortunately, so is "Sorry about that partner!"

Would you play D.O.N.T. in balancing seat?

Here are some hands that you can practice bidding with your partner.
